Even though I’m in my early 50s (at the time of writing), I’m pretty new to travelling and even newer to blogging. I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a travel blog as a keepsake or virtual memento for quite some time, mainly because of ‘the clutter’.
You see, I have boxes of memories from every holiday: napkins with restaurant names, maps of surrounding areas, bus tickets, photographs, faded receipts… you name it, I’ve hoarded it! What better way to keep those memories alive and clear the clutter than to give them their own online space?
Every few months, I would pick up the idea and try to run with it. I’d read all the successful travel blogs, invest in their ‘how to become a travel blogger’ courses, pay for a domain name and hosting, and then… NOTHING!
What do I write about? I’m not young and vibrant; I haven’t taken a gap year (I didn’t even go to university). I’m not a digital nomad, nor have I quit my 9-5 to travel the world. There’s no way on God’s green earth I could even dream of doing so—I have bills to pay and grandchildren to spoil. So how am I going to make this work? Why am I even trying?
Well, it’s simple really. I don’t know how or why, but I do know that if I don’t try, I’ll always wonder ‘what if?’ I was always told I was a dreamer, maybe it’s time to makes these dreams a reality.
So, if you’re here for tales of how I sold everything I own to backpack around Asia, this is not the blog for you. But if you want to see what I do with the small amount of annual leave I get each year and the fun things I do on weekends with very little money, then stick around. Let’s build these memories together!
